Meet the Summer 2024 Magazine
Teens in Print (aka TiP), in association with WriteBoston, is dedicated to amplifying the perspectives and stories of Boston’s teens, giving them a platform to express themselves authentically while fostering community.
The Summer Journalism Institute (or SJI) is an all-encompassing summer experience for Boston’s teens. Students utilize writing, multimedia, and animation to make sense of the world around them. They explore the city and meet esteemed professionals to ask questions and spark conversations with their new journalism skills.

In this issue, our magazine interrogates SJI’s question of the summer: what does it mean to be a teen in Boston? The magazine team aimed to reflect on and answer this question through our chosen theme, “Complex Characters of Boston.”
Our goal was to create a magazine where teens can see themselves represented. We specifically chose designs and locations to reflect the complex communities that make up Boston, including teen-centered communities that aren’t often showcased. Our team worked throughout the five-week program to create photographs and visuals, fun interactive pages, and carefully curated written content that speaks to the different characters of Boston. We hope you enjoy!
