Teens in Print extended its commitment to TiPsters in partnership with Bottom Line to support them throughout high school and into college. We also reached out to TiP alumni, including Ella Verinder, Molly McDermott, and Maria O’Malley, to hear from them on their college experience so far.

“College has been super fun for me so far. It feels like a giant sleepover because I get to see my friends so much, and I love that. I’m also really into all the classes I’m taking: Literatures of Black Girlhoods, Intro Sociology, Intro Creative Writing, and Intro American Studies. All of them have a lot of writing, which I very much appreciate, and have been super heavy in pushing my critical thinking. I’m looking into declaring my major in English next semester and am super excited for everything coming up!”
-Ella Verinder, freshman at Smith College
“College differs so much from high school. You’re able to direct your life in ways that weren’t feasible in high school. It has given me so much freedom and independence. However, it comes with a lot of responsibility. Holding yourself accountable for schoolwork is much harder than having teachers consistently making sure you’re doing assignments and have them ready to turn in. There are so many different pros and cons to college, but I am so happy I decided to attend university because without it, I wouldn’t be half as independent as I am.”
-Molly McDermott, sophomore attending Queen’s University Belfast, Northern Ireland, majoring in English and Creative Writing

“This semester I am the Sports Communications intern at Simmons University, where I help manage media, communications, and game day operations for the athletic teams. Between my internship, work, school, and personal life, things have been busy — but I’m loving every minute of it! My experience with Teens in Print made the transition to college so much easier. The interpersonal and interviewing skills I gained even helped me land my internship. Whenever someone asks about my experience with editing, writing, or publishing, I always mention my time at TiP. I’m so grateful for the entire staff, especially Mohamed and Elvis, for their support and guidance. TiP helped me discover my passion for storytelling and the power of media. Looking ahead, I hope to continue growing my experience in sports broadcasting and reporting, sharing stories that connect fans and athletes.”
–Maria O’Malley, sophomore at Emmanuel College majoring in Communications and Sports Management
